Wash Day @ 6 Weeks Post: 15.09.12 ~ Shampoo Wash

I washed my hair today in preparation for my kinky twist install.  I really haven't been feeling washing my hair all week and was seriously contemplating installing the twists without washing my hair beforehand (don't judge me....) but I decided to stop being so lazy!

These are the quick steps I followed:

  • Sectioned hair into 4 and lightly finger detangled.
  • Prepoo'd with EVCO and warmed Vatika Coconut Oil (used this up).
  • Deep conditioned on dry hair with ORS Hair Mayonaise (used this up).  I applied the deep conditoner like a relaxer in 1 to 2 inch parts, starting at the roots then down the length to the tips.  I two strand twisted each section and clipped up.  I ran out of ORS Hair Mayonaise when doing the last section (front right hand side) so I applied the very last dregs of the ORS RC which I all but used up the other day.  I then removed the clips and sat with the conditioner on my hair for 2hrs whilst under a plastic cap and towel.
  • I rinsed out the deep conditioner with my shower filter head whilst I hung my head over the bath.  I didn't pile the hair ontop of my head, I washed each section on the left side, concentrating on the scalp then the length of my hair whilst finger detangling with the assistance of the running water.  I then repeated the process on the right side before covering with a towel.
  • I then moved to the mirror in order to apply my shampoo.  I decided to use a sulfate shampoo (to eliminate potential itchy scalp when I install the kinky twists) so I opted for Matrix Biolage Hydratherapie Hydrating Shampoo. I applied the shampoo to each section of my hair, to the scalp only and in 2 inch partings to make sure I cut through all of the deep conditioner residue.  I then clipped up each of the 4 sections as I applied shampoo to the next.  I then whilst stood in front of the mirror, I went through each section and thoroughly massaged the shampoo on my scalp, finger detangled (I prefer detangling with shampoo than with conditioner in my hair!).  I then two strand twisted each section before moving onto the next and then rinsed each section - clipping them up as I went along.
  • After the protien deep conditioner I made sure to use a moisturising conditioner so opted for Matrix Biolage Hydratherapie Hydrating Balm mixed with 1 x capsule of Matrix Cera Repair and a splash of grapeseed oil. I applied a little Adore Darkest Brown rinse to the stubbon greys right at the front of my hair.  I covered my hair with a plastic cap and my towel and have been sat with it on my hair for the past hour and a half.

I am about to head upstairs to rinse out the conditioner then I will air dry and then bun for 3 days.  It is my plan to install the kinky twists on Wednesday evening/night - unless my sister decides to have her baby on Wednesday. I have a few days off work at the end of the week so I am sure I will fit the install in sometime between now and this time next week.  I have already soaked the marley braid hair in vinegar so at least I have done some of the prep!

EDIT:  00:22hrs
I've now rinsed my hair, applied my usual leave ins and detangled with a comb. When detangling I noticed that the fron right side of my hair was drier and harder to detangle.  This is the section of hair that I applied ORS RC to instead of the ORS Mayonaise.  Interesting, as I thought it would be the rest of my hair that acted up due to the protein in the Hair Mayonaise.

I lost more hair than I have recently.  I think this is due to the fact that I have not been combing my hair so I am not alarmed at the amount of hair lost.  Just editing the post so that I have pictures of the amount of hair lost documented.  What I can say is that I am not a fan of detangling and the sooner I get into the kinky twists the better.

The first picture shows the hair caught in the hair catcher during the wash proces.  The second picture shows the hair I lost during detangling.  The third picture shows hair combined from both the wash process and detangling process.  The final picture is as sideways image of the total amount of hair lost during todays wash day.
