Can genetic hair loss reverse?

I’ve noticed some hair loss at the temples when I was about 17/18 and 3 years later it’s basically at the same level. Haven’t noticed thinning, hair at crown/on top is still fine. Is it possible for someone to lose a little bit of hair and for the balding to then stop for a (longer) period of time? Or will you always continue to lose hair, albeit it being at a slower rate?
